About me

Research

Mathematical modelling of biological systems: My thesis dissertation was the mathematical modelling of the glycolysis in trypanosomatids, parasitic unicellular organisms of medical importance. I worked under the supervision of Dr. Juan Luis Concepción and Dr. Antonio Parravano at the Universidad de Los Andes, in Mérida, Venezuela.

Entrepreneurship

My company is LavaAmp, a portable, low cost DNA amplification device for performing diagnostics in situ. It is ideal for remote ares, and we aim to take biotechnology out of the laboratory, take it where it is needed. I have another start-up project going on, stay tuned.

Experience

Teacher's Assistant in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics. Instructor in Bioinformatics I worked under the supervision of Dr. José Luis Cordeiro in Future Studies, calculating the State of the Future Index for the world and for South Korea and Venezuela.

I write about science, technology and politics

Who I am

I am Guido Núñez-Mujica, a computational biologist from Mérida, Venezuela, living in Santiago, Chile. My work mostly focuses in making biotechnology accessible, but I have worked on other fields. I am also an activist, amateur science communicator and skeptic. I'm a forward-looking geek in awe with the universe.
